SUMMER READING

Hello world.

Most of your summers probably consisted of Paris or the beach or your grandma's house. Although my summer consisted of two of those things, it was also full of books (and sadly no Paris).

I read any chance I got in the beginning of the summer. I read on the beach, before bed, in the car, even at restaurants. But towards the end of the summer it all slowed down. I was with my friends every day and going to parties on the beach, and I never really booked time in my day to read - which I really wish I had.

I read,

Little Women,
The Program and The Treatment,
Brown Girl Dreaming,
After Tupac and D Foster,
Shatter Me, Unravel Me, Ignite Me
(yes I re-read the series because they are too perfect not to)
and I finished my summer off with starting Gone With the Wind.

All of these book are so incredible. The Program and The Treatment is a dystopian series that shows how the world would look in one hundred or something years for teenagers in America and eventually all over the world. Depression controlled every boy and girl and suicide became an epidemic in which the Program "fixed" by erasing the memories of any child who showed signs of being upset. These children then learned that their very normal emotions can be dangerous and to keep your thoughts you must never let them escape your mind. I loved these two books so much, because it just truly let loose all mayhem possible. And "shockingly" the main characters are in love. A distressed girl with stone cold parents and a brother who committed suicide and an extremely attractive boy who resents his parents and saves the girl's life in the end; both rebels trying to escape the all terrifying Program. The plot was interesting and the author found a way to kill main characters and change the entire aspect of the story while keeping the reader connected with the characters - whether they had their memories or not.

All of these books had similar topics in that they all talked about issues all the characters went through which forced them to stick together. They all were faced with situations where they saw the worst and best in each other and needed each other. These books put these children in stories where they doubted themselves every page, worried for their safety every chapter, and were hesitant to ask for help. Until they all did and formed unbelievable bonds.

These books were the places that I traveled to over the summer, what about you?

Adios.

  3. I identify with your felling of not being able to BOOK *chuckles* time to read, as most of our lives are very busy. However, it sounds like you were able to squish most of you could into your time. I enjoyed reading your intro, as it inspired most of what my intro is today. Also, The Program and the Treatment sounds like a great read.
